I’ve volunteered in programs I find have unique messages or approaches to learning. Particularly, I’m interested in encouraging involvement and retainment in STEM programs.

Engineering Orientation Network (EON 2015)

EON is a Penn State organization that provides freshman engineering students with a mentor to whom they can ask questions and more quickly acclimate to campus life. I participated in EON in Fall 2014 as a freshman, and during Fall 2015, I returned as a mentor.  I was assigned a co-ed group of 10 freshman ChEs to supervise throughout EON Day and the Fall semester.

Freshman Mentor: initiating individual + group conversation with mentees, answering questions on a variety of topics (educational, personal, social, etc), directing mentees to appropriate resources regarding questions, overseeing design competitions, assisting in computer session and technical adjustment using Penn State-specific communication and course management systems

Constitution Day 2016

In my ENGL 474 class in Fall 2016, I used statistics that connect gun violence and bullying to create an informational poster using Apple Keynote.  I then presented the poster at an exhibition for Constitution Day 2016 in order to promote dialogue between students and the public about gun violence and constitutional rights.

Student Transition Engineering Program to University Park (STEP UP 2017)

STEP UP is a three day, Penn State pre-University Park transition event for branch engineering campus students every March.  I volunteered through SWE as an ambassador in Spring 2017 and hosted three freshman women for the weekend.  I also assisted with program check-in, campus tours, and catering set-up + clean-up.
